Fredrika Vadeni Tar-Ilium, born January 11, 1926 as Fredrika Vadeni Quarrovth, ruled as Empeuress of Myroria from June 3, 1973 until her death on September 23, 2015. Fredrika served as Empeuress Consort from February 28, 1950, upon the coronation of her husband Peté as Empeurer of Myroria, until 1969, when he was impeached on charges of attempted murder. In practice, Fredrika and her husband ruled more or less jointly from his coronation in 1950 until his death in 2010. Historians refer to this de facto diarchy as the reign of Peté and Fredrika.
Under her rule Myroria continued to industrialize, develop, and improve its administration. Fredrika's rule continued the revitalization of Myroria started by her husband, which went from being a sluggish nation weighed down by its empire to a rich, powerful nation dictating policy throughout the Pelagean continent. In addition, Myroria's personal union with Ilium served to increase the interconnectedness of Northern Cefnor, though her successes in foreign policy were often clouded by her hectic and scandalous personal life.
Early life
Fredrika was born Fredrika Vadeni Quarrovth on January 11, 1926, in Nouvé Pelagis, the capital of the Myrorian colony of Nouvé Resdaynea, to Fendryn Quarrovth and his wife Vadeni, who died in childbirth and from whom Fredrika was given her middle name. Fredrika was raised as an only child on the Quarrovth Plantation outside Nouvé Pelagis, and her father was often absent fighting natives along the eastern border of the colony. Fredrika would later say that she was "raised by her tutors", though when her father was present the two got along well. Fendryn had fought in the Great War, and gained a reputation as a tactical genius in the often out-of-date and tactically inept Myrorian Army.
On December 11, 1935, when Fredrika was only one month away from her tenth birthday, Nelvil II Moomintroth died, and with him died his House. Fredrika's father Fendryn was chosen by the Council of the Great Houses, now with a Quarrovth-Indiotrovth coalition majority, to become the new Empeurer of Myroria. Upon his accession, Fredrika became the Crown Princess and heiress apparent to the throne.
In 1944, at the age of 18, Fredrika married longtime friend and former schoolmate Peté Tar-Ilium, baron of Ilium. Though Fredrika and Peté had been romantically involved since 1942, it took two years to convince the infamously xenophobic Fendryn to allow his daughter to marry the Eluvataran baron. It was around this time that Fredrika began to acquire a reputation for promiscuity, though she and the Imperial Family vehemently denied or covered up her romantic exploits.
In 1950, Fredrika's father died, and though the Council of Great Houses had approved her as Fendryn's choice for successor, upon his death they overturned their previous decision and chose Fredrika's husband Peté to become Empeurer of Myroria. Though the official reason for this choice was never given, it has been speculated by various historians that the Council passed over Fredrika because she was a woman, or because Peté had already begun to consolidate his power on the Council. Regardless of the reason, Fredrika would often show signs of bitterness at being passed over, though she held great power along with her husband during his reign.
Empeuress Consort
After Fendryn's death, it was expected throughout the nation that Fredrika would be chosen by the Council of Great Houses to inherit the throne of Myroria. Her husband was often surrounded by mystery and scandal, going months without stepping foot in the nation he was prince of. More importantly than that, however, was Peté's status as an outlander: no one expected that the largely conservative Council to choose a foreigner to lead the nation; such a choice would be unprecedented in the nation's history despite the common practice of royal "outbreeding" to other nations' royal houses.
