In contrast to appointed positions such as Ministers, citizens wishing to ascend to an elected position must first be nominated and then run a campaign in an attempt to persuade the senate of their suitability for the job.

Elections

All elections in Taijitu follow a similar, standardised format.

Elections take place at regular intervals as laid down in The Constitution of Taijitu and the Internal Procedures of the Senate. The Delegate and the Vice Delegate are elected at the end of every third month, in January, April, July and October, and the Speaker of the Senate is elected every fourth month in January, May and August.

Elections and campaigns are opened and closed by the current Speaker of the Senate, with the Speaker declaring the winner of the vote.

Votes are decided by a simple plurality system, i.e. the person or ticket with the highest number of votes wins the ballot.
