Jennifer Government: NationStates, or just Nationstates (NS), is a massively multiplayer online game created by Max Barry in 2002. It is very loosely based on his book, Jennifer Government. Issues

Issues are the key gameplay in NationStates. They cover a various topics, ranging from real life issues to speculative ones. The player can choose from the settings menu whether to have one per weekday, one per day, two per weekday, or two per day. For each issue several options are given. Choosing a position will change your nation at update. Be warned, a certain position will often have unexpected results. If you don't like any of the options given, you can dismiss the issue without altering your nation.

Regions

All nations are located in one of the region's which exist in the game. Regions can be divided into two groups, Game Created Regions and User Created Regions. Game Created Regions are the seven regions created by the game. The name refers to their function. All newly founded nations appear in either the Pacific (TP), the North Pacific (TNP), the East Pacific (TEP), the South Pacific (TSP) or the the West Pacific (TWP) which are referred to as feeders, refounded ones appear in Lazarus and nations ejected from a region are sent to the Rejected Realms (TRR). Game Created Regions are the only regions from which other users can recruit.

All other regions are User Created Regions, created by players. Unlike feeders, new nations must always move themselves into these regions. User Created Regions also have or had a founder nation.
