The Imperium Valicianum Sacrum, Ecclesiastic Empire or Church State, is a moderately large island realm on the northern hemisphere, not far from the coast of Pelagea. The term "Valicia" is in use for both the country and it's main island, which is also home to it's synonymous capital.
The Imperium's isolationist, ultra-authoritarian society is dominated by a vast ecclesiarchy headed by Empress Justinia, regarded by the population as a direct conduit between Heaven and Earth. What the Imperium is lacking in space, it is making up with it's richness in resources and strict, religious asceticism, and slowly, the newly developed country is reaching out to the rest of the world again, if only to spread the faith.

History
Up until the early 19th century, Valicia was split between a multitude of feudal warlords, only nominally headed by a powerless Emperor, and largely unaware of the industrial revolution affecting the rest of the world. This changed when Prince Benedictus, son of Emperor Basilius III, returned from the Pelagian mainland, bringing with him not only the knowledge of steam and gunpowder, but also the claim that he received those from a messenger of God along with the order to unify the realm so to make it a monument of faith.
Brokering an alliance between the imperial family and the mountain clans of Bernhard, this vision soon became reality. When Emperor Benedictus died of tuberculosis and passed on the crown to Empress Justinia, she inherited a rapidly modernized industrial powerhouse, unified in faith and leadership alike.
