The Vice Delegate is an elected member of the Taijituan Government. They act as a substitute should anything happen to the incumbent Delegate which means they cannot perform their executive duties.

Role

The Constitution of Taijitu sets out the role of the Vice Delegate:

Should the Delegate be unable to perform their duties or their office be left vacant the Vice Delegate shall assume the duties of the Delegate until a new one has been elected

Constitutionally, the role is limited to waiting for the delegate to come to some harm, and then taking the reins of an emergency government until a new delegate can be elected. In practice, the Vice Delegate is an important member of the government. As the delegate's running mate, the two have a close working relationship. The lack of a clearly defined role for the Vice Delegate enables the office holder to act as a minister without portfolio, dealing with areas of interest rather than resposibilities of state.

Method of Election

The Vice Delegate is elected on the same ticket as the delegate, and must meet the same criteria as set out for delegacy candidates. During delegacy elections, each candidate for delegate must inform the Senate of their choice of Vice Delegate running mate.

This system ensures that should something happen to the delegate which means they can no longer exercise executive power, the Vice Delegate will have a popular mandate for their ascension to the temporary delegacy.

Oath

I, [forum name], do solemnly swear that I shall hold by and not abuse the powers of my office as enumerated by the Constitution, fufill the duties and responsibilities of the Delegate to secure the wellbeing of the region in the event of their absence, uphold the Constitution and laws of Taijitu, and recognize that should I fail to comply to this oath that my office and its powers may be by a vote of the Senate forfeit.
